BDAC provides a number of programs and services to support children and their families living in the Bendigo region.
Aboriginal Early Years Service
The Aboriginal Early Years Service Access Worker aims to increase the participation rates of Aboriginal children and families within support services.
BDAC is committed to improving outcomes for Aboriginal children through increased participation in kindergarten programs.
Our Koori Preschool Assistant supports the development of a safe and accepting environment, where the rights of all children are acknowledged, and individuality and creativity are encouraged. They are also focused on ensuring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and heritage is valued and promoted.
The preschool assistant visits all kindergartens in the Bendigo region on a regular basis and is able to assist with the enrollment of your child.
Aboriginal Child FIRST
The Aboriginal Child FIRST Worker provides a service between BDAC and Anglicare (formally St Luke’s) in Hargreaves Street, Bendigo.
This role provides intake, assessment and support services to families who are at high risk of having their child/children removed and placed in the child protection system. The worker begins the development of a support plan for Aboriginal families within the family services sector and provides consults and advice to families and professionals in this area.
Children's Resource Program
BDAC’s Children’s Resource Worker facilitates the Bunjil support group program for children at risk or affected by homelessness and family violence. They also provide individual advocacy, referrals and support to access therapeutic services.
Cultural support plan
BDAC staff develop individual cultural support plans for all children and young people placed in out-of-home care. Referrals are received directly from case managers (placement agency or DHHS).
This service is available to all children and young people placed in out-of-home care. It is an intensive counselling service for individuals and family groups. Referral can be made through BDAC’s Client Services Program or Home Based Care Program Manager.
