The Aboriginal Women’s & Children’s Case Management Worker (AWCCM) works with women and children who are presently or have been impacted by family violence.

This position is an integral part of the Family Safety team and BDAC Family and Community Services, providing advice and support to workers around risk assessments and safety planning, understanding the impacts of trauma on parenting and child development, and navigating the service system.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To provide case management to women (Aboriginal or mothers/carers of Aboriginal children) who are currently, or have previously, experienced family violence (and their children)
  • To provide risk assessment and safety planning to women and children who are currently experiencing family violence.
  • To refer clients and support their engagement with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
  • Experience in family violence risk assessment and safety planning for women and children.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal Culture and the ACCHO environment.
  • A strong understanding of trauma and the different ways that it impacts people, their development and their ongoing interpersonal relationships.
  • High level case management skills in working with individuals and families in crisis.
  • An ability to use creativity in work with families, working from a person-centred, strength-based perspective.
  • A commitment to working within a team environment, participating in team meetings, supervision and planning as well as co-working with other BDAC workers to best support women and their families.
  • Remains motivated and productive, using initiative when working autonomously
