Our History

This history may contain culturally sensitive material, including names and images of people who have passed away.

History of BDAC

BDAC was founded to represent and provide services to the Dja Dja
Wurrung community (Jaara people) and Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander residents living in the Dja Dja Wurrung boundaries.
BDAC has a responsibility to ensure growth of services and
development of our Aboriginal community. BDAC aims to provide an
excellent health service and outcomes for our people, improve the
service quality of life and be a lead agency in providing employment
and career pathways for Aboriginal people.
The Dja Dja Wurrung country includes the regional city of Bendigo,
where 1,851 Aboriginal people live, and the surrounding districts of
Boort, Redesdale and Creswick. More than half of the Aboriginal
people living in Bendigo are under the age of 24
